Hadronica Wins at Rosehill Gardens

In what proved to be a prudent bit of planning, Hadronica notched up another city win this afternoon after Brad and Leon identified a race in Sydney as a perfect option for her. Up the Hume Hwy she travelled with the hope of bringing an unlucky run of winless but close-up runs to an end and with only 7 others to beat – that she did, in style, in a BM 75 race for Fillies and Mares at Rosehill.

The Charge Forward mare was given the perfect ride by Josh Parr who had her camped right behind the speed, breathing down the necks of the leaders from the get-go. Relishing the Sydney way of going, Hadronica looked very comfortable throughout and Parr eased her around heels on the corner, surged her to the front in the straight and as she rounded them up she gave nothing else a look in, eventually going on to score by 1.3L from the Kris Lees galloper, I’m Mary Too.

That victory netted her connections nearly $50k and it now takes the 5yo’s record to 5 wins and 5 placings from 18 starts with prizemoney in excess of $130k, making her a handy money spinner at the track and no doubt adding some residual value as a future broodmare.

Here are some images. (video coming soon)

Ready As Elle very impressive first up at The Valley

rae-21-12
Promising mare Ready As Elle returned to the track this evening with a win that suggests there’s good things to come. Starting an easing 2nd fav behind Syd visitor Night Moves, she wasn’t bustled early and was back just off midfield, while the fav was pressured laeft right and centre up on the speed. Once young former Kiwi apprentice Alex Forbes gave her her mouth she rounded them up quickly and gave them windburn in the straight.

The win was enjoyed by some of her owners who were on-course but none more celebrated than by Team Corstens Racing manager and part owner Luka Topic. That’s what racing is all about!

Supreme Warrior worries his rivals

Spicer Thoroughbred’s SUPREME WARRIOR wins Race 6 at Bendigo 29/11/12

Supreme Warrior scored his 4th win from 10 starts and made it 2 in a row when he easily accounted for a small field at Bendigo this afternoon.

The 4yo son of Golan likes to do everything at double speed but on the flip side is tough as nails and despite getting challenged in the run home, rider M. Rodd never panicked and clicked him into another gear. In response the big fella raced clear and won well, setting himself up for a 1400m race at Flemington on the 15th of December.

This racehorse has a truckload of ability and is still learning his trade. We expect he will go on to win some decent races once he matures and gets his racing smarts.

Supreme Warrior overcomes difficulty to score

Spicer Thoroughbreds SUPREME WARRIOR wins race 8 at Bendigo, Nov 14th 2012.

Promising galloper, Supreme Warrior returned to the winner’s list this afternoon when he proved too classy at Bendigo, despite things not going his way.

After the jump he suffered early interference causing the saddle to shift forward, so M. Rodd was left with no choice but to let him stride and he assumed the lead shortly afterwards. Rodd held him together for as long as possible and he did a fantastic job to stave off the challenges from Oriental Ruby and Classic Elle.

Zabeelionaire’s Melbourne Cup dream over- for this year anyway.

Race 7, Zabeelionaire, Craig Newitt_06-11-2012, Grp 1 Melbourne Cup, Flemington, GEN_0009Unfortunately Zabeelionaire was never sighted in today’s Melbourne Cup but he was far from disgraced finishing within 12L of  the best stayers in the world. Drawing gate 24 was always going to make our task a huge one and a muddling tempo did him no favours. He will be back next year, a more seasoned campaigner and hopefully can continue the amazing ride for his connections.

Zabeelionaire In the Melbourne Cup

Zabeelionaire 2012 Melbourne Cup Profile

Clinton Payne, www.racenet.com.au

Zabeelionaire is currently at odds of $51 in the 2012 Melbourne Cup and Racenet takes a look at his chances in the big race.

Last race: He came through the Group I Mackinnon Stakes over 2000 metres when working home strongly to finish fifth, beaten two lengths, in a fast run race.

Recent form: He finished sixth, beaten 2-3/4 lengths, in the Group I Caulfield Cup over 2400 metres. Prior to that he was down the track in the Group I Turnbull Stakes over 2000 metres at Flemington.

Racing style: He tends to in a midfield position.

Trainer: Leon Corstens hasn’t won a Melbourne Cup but importantly he knows what it takes to win the great race. Corstens used to be the stable foreman for Bart Cummings and was with the stable for a few of the Cups King’s 12 Melbourne Cup winners.

Pros: This horse is coming to his peak right on time with solid runs at his last two in good Melbourne Cup form races. He’s by Zabeel, the sire of three Melbourne Cup winners, out of a Carnegie mare, which suggests the 3200 metres won’t be a problem.

Cons: While barriers don’t play as big a part in the Melbourne Cup as they do in most races, gate 24 is terrible for Zabeelionaire, who midfield or worse and may have to go way back to get cover.

Does he have the class to win a modern day Melbourne Cup?

Assessment: He’s a fit horse that has improved with each run into Tuesday, and his Mackinnon run was “Cummings-esque”. There are pluses and minuses to his credentials but he’s not without an each-way chance if the breaks go his way in the run.

Current odds: Sportsbet are offering $51 about Zabeelionaire in the Melbourne Cup.

Zabeelionaire spot-on for Melbourne Cup tilt after slashing Mackinnon run

Gr1 winner Zabeelionaire is on target for a crack at the big one after a cracking 5th in the Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes this afternoon. In what looks like a classic Bart Cummings preparation, our bloke finished powerfully to run 5th 2.1L away from winner Alcopop.

If we can get some luck at the barrier draw later today we would have to be in the Cup with a decent hope.
