Brad’s journey began with countless early mornings spent in the Flemington trainer’s tower, working alongside Leon Corstens, the former right-hand man of iconic trainer Bart Cummings. He then spent eight formative years working alongside legendary yearling buyer George Smith at the major yearling sales, absorbing knowledge, developing his eye and continually refining his own selection criteria.

Since 2005, Brad’s reputation as a yearling buyer has continued to grow, with an impressive record of identifying elite racing talent.

Among his standout purchases and success stories are international champion sprinter and successful stallion Starspangledbanner, 1000 Guineas winner Commanding Jewel, Victoria Derby winner Zabeelionaire, Makybe Diva Stakes winner Awesome Rock, 2018 Victoria Derby winner Extra Brut, 2019 Turnbull Stakes winner Kings Will Dream, and dual Group 1 winner Snapdancer, who claimed the Sangster Stakes and Memsie Stakes, as well as the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Classic.

Starspangledbanner was sold for a $10.5 million stud deal, while Commanding Jewel achieved a $3.2 million sale and dual Group 1 winner Snapdancer was sold for $3.2 million. These landmark transactions, together with numerous other successful sales completed on behalf of clients, demonstrate the commercial strength and depth of Brad’s bloodstock expertise.

Established by Brad Spicer in 2005, Spicer Thoroughbreds began life as a yearling syndication business before evolving into a much broader bloodstock operation. Today, the business proudly services a diverse and sophisticated group of private clients, breeders and owners who share a passion for racing and a desire to compete at the highest level.
