Captain Shazam Wins at Swan Hill – VIDEO

Well done guys, it’s been a long slog but we saw today we have a very nice horse in the making. He won with ease and is destined for better Races.

Craig Robertson said he still has so much upside this guy and when the penny drops he will be a serious city class horse. He actually ran quicker time than the older 72 rated 975 which is always a positive sign.

Leon is thrilled to get that one after missing out at Bendigo and will give him one more Country race before we step him out on a Metro track.

2013 Yearling Parade & Family Day

Spicer Thoroughbreds yearling Parade for 2103 will be on the 21st of April at Leon Corstens training centre, Kerrygail farm near Romsey, about an hour from Melbourne.

It all kicks off at 11am, with a sausage sizzle, coffee van, drinks and a jumping castle and face-painting for the kids.

A select team of Spicer Thoroughbreds yearlings will be paraded for your chance to check them out up close and personal, and join in the excitement of horse ownership. Meet other owners, chat with trainer Leon Corstens and his team, and enjoy the family atmosphere.

Awaken The Dragon Wins Race 5 at Caulfield

Well the wait was worth it today as the Dragon really knuckled down, took gaps, and surged late for a very satisfying win. Michael Rodd rode him perfectly, settled him early and saved him up in the straight for a late crack.

Michael said he felt great today, except for his high head carriage, but as we know that is just his natural way of running.

Leon was thrilled with the win, having all that time off has paid dividends and hopefully we can now build on that win.

Here is the video of the race & interviews:

Joke of the Week

A young jockey and his stable lass girlfriend make the decision to get married. Everything is planned and the couple intend to honeymoon in Italy for a week. The marriage goes without a hitch and the couple set off on their honeymoon. While checking in the lady behind the desk asks ‘We have two suites available for you, would you like the bridal?’ ‘No thanks says the jockey I’ll just hold her ears till she gets the hang of it!’

Ready As Elle shows Class to Make it two in a row.

Classy mare Ready As Elle made it two in a row when she took out another heat of the Essendon Mazda 55sec Challenge at Moonee Valley tonight.

The mare by More Than Ready, showed in her work leading up to this that she had thrived since her first up win. The only query was her wide gate, but if she could overcome that, we were brimming with confidence that she could score back to back wins at The Valley. Leon’s apprentice Alex Forbes, once again showed why he is such hot property at the moment as he had the mare perfectly poised from her wide gate after traveling less than a furlong. He sat poised on her, quiet as a church mouse, waiting for the the perfect time to hit the ‘go’ button and when he did, the 4yo pounced on the lead and quickly put the issue beyond doubt.

She is such an honest and consistent mare who is still only lightly raced. She has won 5 and placed 5 from 11 starts- a formidable record. Fingers crossed she stays sound and can keep on her winning way as she progresses through the grades.
