Resetalenko Wins at Seymour

Congratulations! Well, the wait was worth it after a very impressive win by Resetalenko today coming from off the pace for a convincing 3-length win.

Michael Rodd was at his finest extracting Resetalenko from a zipfastner pocket to shove out on the turn before running away.
Michael said this horse has plenty of upside and is only going to improve on drier ground and up in distance. Michael is convinced he will be much better on a dry track as he sprinted well today but he could be more explosive on top of the ground.

Leon was thrilled and so happy for all the team as we know it’s been a frustrating ride so far but things look to be falling into place now .

Brad Spicer has teamed up with the Mirabel Foundation to present the Grass Roots Racing Club.

The Grass Roots Racing Club was born on the back of The Grass Roots Sportsman’s Club, which has been a huge success in helping raise money for the Mirabel Foundation kids. These children have been neglected, orphaned, or affected by having parents with drug problems. With our contacts through Horse Racing, AFL, Corporate businesses and the media, we have actioned a plan to have some fun racing horses, coupled with some the real-life support for these poor innocent kids . In short, some fun for members coupled with the mission of brightening up some young lives.

DUGAN in NZ Thoroughbreds News

A summer holiday has been the making of the Matamata two-year-old Dugan (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who has returned to realise his potential in the latter part of the season with consecutive wins, the latest a black-type victory.

The John Sargent-trained youngster showed early glimpses of his talent before he was sent for a break in January and yesterday at Wanganui he fulfilled that promise by claiming the Listed John Turkington Forestry Castletown Stakes.

“This time back his efforts have been really good and he’s got better with each of the three runs,” Sargent’s stable foreman Hayden Allen said.

Dugan kept the best of company early in his career, including a fourth behind Recite at Trentham and a sixth at Ellerslie behind Ruud Awakening, respective Group One winners of the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes and Ellerslie’s Diamond Stakes.

The son of Darci Brahma was third when resuming at Te Rapa in April and his Wanganui success followed his breakthrough at Awapuni last month, both wins in the hands of Hayden Tinsley.

Dugan was given an economical run in the trail on Saturday and when into the clear he rounded off in style. “Hayden gave him a great trip and everything went perfectly,” Allen said. Runner-up Aaja Nachle (NZ) (Fast ’n’ Famous) was game in defeat after showing early speed to take up the running and Mossimo (NZ) (Mossman) turned in an eye-catching finish from the back to take third money. The well-supported Dancer’s Tale (NZ) (Tale of the Cat) had her chance, but lacked her customary zip and battled into fourth.

NZ-tbnews-tableOut of the Pins mare Snipza Gold – a four-time winner and placed in a Stewards Stakes – Dugan was a $60,000 Karaka purchase from last year’s Phoenix Park draft by the Victorian-based Brad Spicer, whose boutique syndication company manages the juvenile.

Another win for DUGAN in NZ

Dugan (Hayden Tinsley) gets the better of Aaja Nachie in the Castletown Stakes at Wanganui (June 1, 2013)

Spicer Thoroughbreds New Zealander DUGAN won Race 4 at Wanganui on Sat 1/6 in fine form.

Well yesterday was just fantastic, Hayden Tinsley – take a bow for a gem of a ride, and what about the fight in Dugan, just terrific!!

John rang yesterday and said to wish everyone Congratulations as it’s not always easy making the jump to stakes level and we did it, in fine fashion…

John said he will let the dust settle for a few days’ and then make a decision whether we give him another run or turn him out for a break.

The local press is taking a liking to Dugan too…

Dugan sets up trans-Tasman double for Sargent

Sat, 01 Jun 2013 – Dennis Ryan

Late emerging juvenile Dugan set up a trans-Tasman feature double for John Sargent with a determined victory in the $50,000 Turkington Forestry Castletown Stakes at Wanganui today.
Two hours later in Brisbane, stablemate Quintessential marked the first anniversary of her Queensland Oaks success by adding the A$250,000 Eagle Farm Cup.

“It’s not a bad double to get between here and home,” said Sargent from Brisbane, where Quintessential is his only Queensland winter carnival candidate. “It was a gutsy run from the mare after she was headed by Manighar, so it’s all systems go for the Brisbane Cup now.”

Quintessential in fact had to survive a protest from the connections of Manighar, alleging interference in the early stages of the race, but the protest was dismissed.

There was no such complication in Dugan’s Wanganui victory, even allowing the winning margin was only a head. In the skilled hands of Hayden Tinsley, the Darci Brahma gelding came with the last run to edge out fellow northern visitor Aaja Nachie.

Stepping up form an 800-metre debut win 10 days earlier, Aaja Nachie put in a big effort to set the pace and go down by just a head. Opaki-trained Mossimo, who had finished third to Dugan at Awapuni last month, put in a big finishing effort to take third three-quarters of a length away.

Dugan had broken through for his first win from five starts at Awapuni a fortnight ago, when he was considered lucky to hold out the green runner-up Goodn’targ. That filly was a rival again today but she never emerged from the rear and beat only one other runner.

Sargent trains Dugan for an Australian-based syndicate headed by Brad Spicer, who is also the principal in the ownership of the Sargent-trained Choice Bro, the winner of last year’s Gr. 1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.

“I’ve known Brad for a while now and it’s great to be able to do the business for him,” commented Sargent, who has no set plans for Dugan. “I’ll just wait and see how he comes through this race. There’s not a lot of him and he’s going to be a lot stronger once he’s fully mature.

“It could work out that we’ll ease up on him now as I think he’ll be a lot better in the spring.”
