J’Star gets maiden win

J’Star you beauty…………… Congrats to all……

Finally she nearly did everything right and we saw the effects of that with an impressive win. Dan said she was a tad tardy out of the gates, but settled reasonably well off a good speed, the when he asked he she really let down the way we hoped she would. Dan said the win was actually pretty soft in the end and she should win better races going forward with more improvement.

Leon was all smiles as we had endured a bit of heartache with her because she isn’t the easiest filly to train, but we saw a glimpse of her raw talent today. We won’t get too carried away as it was a fairly weak field but hopefully gain some confidence to set her up for some more joy.

Amovatio Wins the Hawkesbury Cup

Congratulations to the whole team on Saturday’s Cup win!

Wow, how blessed are we to be racing such a gutsy horse like Amo, he had everything stacked against him yesterday and still came out on top. Chris Waller needs so much credit on how he has placed Amo throughout his career and to take his earning’s to $816k as a 5 year old is a superb effort, especially when he has a few years left of racing ahead of him. He now becomes very hard to place with his rating so high, but Chris will get him on the right path I am sure !

Brad Spicer

Trainer’s View:

Amovatio has come through his winning run with no problems and he certainly was a deserved winner. I have been going through his race record over the weekend and he has had a lot of near misses but he has certainly done a great job in the race that he has won as well.

It is certainly not over yet, we want to win a few more races and his prize money is up around the $800,000 mark. If we could get it up to the million, well what a fantastic job he has done for all of us.

Congratulations again to all our owners.

Amovatio Highlights Edinburgh Park Quality
Tara Madgwick – Saturday, 30 April 2016

The Group III Hawkesbury Gold Cup on Saturday was won by classy performer Amovatio, an $85,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Edinburgh Park, who will offer a top quality selection of mares at the Inglis Broodmare Sale starting on Monday.

Ian Smith’s Edinburgh Park have had much success with their breeding program over the years that started with world champion sprinter Silent Witness and has continued through a host of stakes-winners right up to Amovatio.

The Chris Waller trained five year-old son of Al Maher has now won nearly $800,000 in prizemoney providing a sensational return on investment for Spicer Thoroughbreds. …read more

Expressamosa Wins at Kyneton

Congratulations, Expressamosa finally saluted the judge after a few placings and hopefully now with a win under his belt, he can go onto a higher level. It was a great ride by Johnny Allen, box-seated before clearing out to win by a length.

Now that he is a much more mature older horse, we hope he can settle better and relax in his races, so with that turn of foot he showed over 1200 meters he will be winning better races.

Although we won yesterday he is still in the in-between area of actually fighting for his spot in the stable and now it’s all up to him to make those necessary steps to hold his spot in the team.

Doom ‘n Boom Wins At Terang

Well that was a sight for sore eyes today as you have finally seen what we see on regular basis in training, and maybe it all came together for him today.

It was a great patient ride from Jamie and he presented the horse at the right stage which was paramount to him unleashing a good turn of foot in the final 400 meters.

Jamie was very complimentary post-race and thought he can really go on with the job now so fingers crossed its the start of things to come.

(I reckon he must of overheard us on the update stating it was his time to stand up – Geez I am glad he listened!)

Congratulation’s team as its been a long slow road up until now!

Awesome Rock 2nd in Group 1 Australia Cup

Awesome Rock was first across the line in the 2016 Australia Cup, but relegated to 2nd place after a protest was upheld, with first place going to Preferment.

It’s fair to say that was the hardest scenario we have had to all deal with on a race track, and unfortunately the call didn’t go our way. We could go over the ins and outs of the protest but like an umpiring decision in footy we won’t be able to amend the decision and we all now look forward to his next start.

The positives to take away from the run was that he was so brave he did all the work and battled on like a Trojan which was fantastic to see, it just franked what a good horse he is!

Leon is still pretty cut up this morning and will leave him be for 24hours before he makes a call on the boys next start.  The good news is that he pulled up well and there are some nice races for him going forward.

It was still a big feather in everyone’s cap yesterday to run so well and a 2nd in the Oz Cup still reads well on his CV!  Let’s hope we’re back next year to get that one back.

STEWARD’S REPORT:

Prior to correct weight Hugh Bowman, rider of Preferment (NZ), second past the post, lodged an objection against Awesome Rock (Stephen Baster) being declared the winner alleging interference from the 400m until the winning post. On the evidence it was established that between the 300m and the 200m Awesome Rock shifted out when not clear of Preferment (NZ) taking that horse several horses out off its course, and bearing in mind the short half head margin between the two at the finish, had it not been for this interference Preferment (NZ) would have finished in front of Awesome Rock and therefore the objection was upheld and the placings amended as follows: first placegetter – Preferment (NZ), second placegetter – Awesome Rock, third placegetter – Rising Romance (NZ) and fourth placegetter – Fenway and correct weight was declared.

Baroota wins a 1200m at Kembla Grange

Baroota (NZ) (Showcasing (GB)/Centree (NZ)):

He raced yesterday at Kembla Grange where he was having his debut run and recorded a strong win in a small field. He paraded relaxed and from barrier 2 he began well with Hugh Bowman easing behind the other two runners where he travelled comfortably to the 600m mark. He worked his way up 3 wide turning into the straight stalking the leader and when asked for an effort he shot clear with ease, racing a little green but clearly it was a dominant performance. Hugh was very happy with the run saying he was green once he hit the front but gave him a good feel. He did get a soft win yesterday and ideally we would be running again in 3 weeks, therefore he will instead race in 4 weeks on March 2nd over 1400m. I will give him a solid trial between races so that he learns to attack the line. Following on from his next start is a suitable 1600m race on March 9th, again at Warwick Farm.

Kings Command makes it 3-in-a-row!

Congratulations to all the team !!!

Well we all like a little surprise in racing every now and then, with yesterday being one of those days!  I think there were several factors why he won, the way he trained on, the way he looked, some extra confidence with 2 wins in a row, and then the ride by Ollie which was 10/10. Ollie said KC did a great job as we did a little bit of work to get a lovely trail early, but he switched off well which was the difference in the final 200 meters as he saved that energy for the finish. Ollie said he would keep him around that distance for the time being as he feels he is nice and strong at 1400.

Please find some great pics from yesterday below:

A Spicer Double with Kings Command

Congratulations, and what a way to start a prep with back-to-back wins and another little gem by Ollie to get us over the line 🙂 It was a copy-book Ollie ride, be patient and the run will come, which luckily for us it presented itself with enough time to snatch a win late.

Ollie has always liked this horse from day 1 and with some immaturity issues it’s taken us a lot longer to reach metro level and now we can head there with confidence that’s where he belongs.

Well done again team and look forward to many more wins for KC!
