Hail, The King

5yo gelding, Mastercraftsman x Catch The Moon

Wise men say that only fools rush in, so Brad and the team took a patient path when they spotted The King racing in Ireland back in 2018.

Initially reluctant to part with the highly regarded son of Mastercraftsman, the horse’s owner agreed to a follow up offer from Spicer Thoroughbreds in 2019, and we’re glad he did. The horse has some exceptional form lines in 2018 and 2019 around horses like Southern France (G2 Zipping Classic winner), Downdraft (G3 Hotham Stakes winner), Mustajeer (Ebor Hcp winner), Magical (multiple G1 winner), Latrobe and Flag Of Honour.

“We tried a couple of years ago but couldn’t get him, so we watched and waited and tried again and actually got the horse at a much better rate the second time around – we were lucky and our timing was right,” said Brad.

“He’s a serious talent, Mick and I both think there is Group 1 potential there and his form suggests that. He’s been gelded and has had a quiet initiation to Australian life but will head to Lindsey Smith at Warrnambool in December.”

Races like the G1 Australian Cup and G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes could be on the agenda in 2020, and we’re so excited by what this fellow may be capable of once he gets into the groove Down Under.
