Tempo Wins maiden

Congratulations to the owners of Tempo, and to Kevin Corstens and jockey Harry Coffey.

A nice maiden win over 1000m today at Donald.

He has delivered on his early promise after the ultimate gear change gelding , now should be able to take the next steps into metro class!

Kings Will Dream wins Group 1 Turnbull Stakes

A triumphant return as Kings Will Dream wins the Turnbull Stakes

As race caller Matt Hill said on the line of Extra Brut’s charge to victory in the 2018 Victoria Derby, “He’s brave and he’s strong”, he could have repeated the same words for Kings Will Dream’s amazing victory in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

With young jockey Jye McNeil striving to get him to the line as Chris Wallers other runner Finche was inching closer by the metre Jye ensured he got him across the line in first place to deliver him his first Group 1 winner, as John Allen did with Extra Brut in last years Derby.
To add to that irony Spicer Thoroughbreds owner, Brad Spicer, was on a plane high above our great southern land on his way to the Tattersalls UK yearling sales hoping to purchase the next Kings Will Dream so could not be present to join in the euphoria that enveloped the mounting yard as he crossed the line in first place.

With his fantastic group of owners finally able to let their emotions run wild in public the back story to this incredible animals recovery from a life threatening pelvic injury suffered during the early part of last years Cox Plate was the centre of the media attention.

Only Brad and his loyal, loving and patient owners have been privy to the journey to firstly save the life of this amazing thoroughbred through his period of slow recovery and finally with the decision to put him back in to training with Chris Waller only after extensive vet tests cleared him totally of any residual signs of bone or muscle weakness in the affected area.

Brad would sincerely like to thank the Ballarat vets who tended him ensuring his life was saved, Laura who spent countless hours looking after him whilst he was boxed for months on end & then nursing him back to full health so he could be tested as a racehorse again, Darren Weir, his former trainer and his staff who looked after him in his first two Australian campaigns, Chris Waller, Jo Taylor & their training staff for bringing him back slowly & patiently to deliver the ultimate racing result, a deserved Group 1 win.

Finally Spicer Thoroughbreds rely on owners becoming friends and bringing new people to the business with this group doing just that, something we are grateful for and forever thankful.

With “Solomon” delivering in the Turnbull Stakes exactly what Brad believed he was destined for let’s all look forward to his next race day assignment to be publicly announced in a few days following a discussion between Brad and Chris Waller.

Snapdancer wins maiden at Ballarat

Congratulations team!!

Monday’s win was very satisfying as this filly has shown ability for a while, but it’s great to get those opinions franked, especially by jockey Linda Meech, who said our girl is a stakes class filly moving forward.

Linda certainly set her alight early from the gates being very positive which I though we maybe a bit vulnerable late, but it was the complete opposite as she was very strong through the line.

She will now most likely step into something stronger in town over further as long as she pulls up well, but 1 thing is for sure, we look to have a talented filly moving forward.

Our Wind Spirit wins back to back

Well that left us with our hearts in our mouths as our boy was a dodgem car earlier in the straight, before getting a gap in the last 200 meters. Its very much a momentum track at Ballarat and the sit spring scenario never suited us today, but he is tracking in the right direction.

Ben rode him well and a little too well as we didn’t think he would end up 3rd on the rails after settling, but he seemed to put himself there and was blocked in for most of the race until the final furlong.

He is still going through his education period and will learn more from every run and this confidence he is getting  there now, which will really set him up once he matures mentally.

Congratulations to the owners, and to trainer Lindsay Smith, and Ben Allen.

Saone wins at Ballarat

Well congratulations and it was super to see her stretch out late to win convincingly, albeit by less than a length. She presented a little fitter today and I am certain the more racing she does the better she will get.

Dean was happy to let  her drift back, but we got snookered in an awkward spot, not at all enjoying the kickback  and clearly was off the bit a long way out chasing, luckily she had the class to overcome adversity! We need to really put this into perspective as he is only just 2 at her 2nd start, beating older more seasoned horses which gives us plenty to think about for the spring going forward.

Lindsey said she will improve even further with more racing and can’t wait to step her up in trip over the spring. She has lots of potential and will only keep developing further so the spring and autumn campaigns are really exciting to see what levels she can reach.

Olympic Oath wins at Ballarat

Well congratulations and it was super to see him stretch out late to win convincingly when challenged. He presented a little fitter today and I am certain the more racing he does the better he will get.

Ben was happy to sit wide and keep him out of trouble which saw him hold off a late challenge  very strongly. We need to really put this into perspective as he is only just 2 at his 2nd start, beating older more seasoned horses which gives us plenty to think about for the spring going forward.

Kentucky Tornado wins at Bendigo

Well that was fantastic to see today as she really showed us a glimpse of what the future looks like with a convincing win. Although it was only a maiden she was pretty arrogant today as Mick Dee only asked her for a minor effort and she responded well before Mick took hold 100 meters from the post.

Mick said it was a really soft win today as we could of won by 3-4 lengths if we had wanted to, and that gear change with the step up in distance really saw a much better turn of foot.

Mick said she can step up into a 2400 meter race now and hopefully put 2 on end.
