Exciting galloper Captain Britain scored his 2nd win in a row, proving too classy for his rivals, once again on his home deck.

After his impressive debut 3 weeks ago, the 4yo son of Camelot had little luck in what was a muddling run race. He was a little fierce resenting the slow tempo so Beau Mertens had little option than to bring him to the outside, leaving him trapped 3 wide with no cover in a field of 7.

As it developed into a sprint home he was at a disadvantage having covered the extra ground but after some urging from Mertens, his class and will-to-win prevailed. He found the front and fought doggedly to ensure nothing was getting past him and though it was a narrow win, it was with plenty of authority. He was particularly strong through the line and will be primed for a longer trip now.

Captain Britain is another of the string of yearlings we purchased from the UK to develop into stayers over here. Though that was well below what will be his ideal distance, it was very pleasing to see him respond like he did when put to the sword. He showed a nice turn of foot and sustained it once he got to the lead.

It was also satisfying to see the Princeton colours prevail once again for Craig Pearce and a great group of co-owners including Mr P McRedmond, Harlem Racing No. 2, Mr G Kaparos, H Y L W D Racing, Mr A Van, Mr M J Gordon, Mr P Garofalo, Mr L McMillan, Mr M W Scholten, Mr N J McKissock, Mr D Cicciarelli, Mr G Singh, Mr N Cooke, Mr C Carter, P H C Racing, Mr R D Partington

Captain Britain will push on through his grades, building his prizemeony and rating which will set him up for the big fish he will be frying in the future. His next assignment will more than likely be the “Up And Comers” race on Good Friday over 1700m at Geelong. It’s a set weights Class 3 worth $150k so fingers crossed he can keep adding to the picket fence form!
