We were thrilled to see our girl, Playing It Safe score her 3rd career victory in somewhat arrogant style at Ballarat today.

Settling back in the 2nd half of the field after a slow get away actually worked in her favour. The solid clip set up early by race fave Kentucky Nick who was taken on by Carisbrook allowed her to find her rhythm. The pair opened up a big lead approaching the 600m with Playing It Safe at least 6L off them and with heavy traffic to negotiate.

Shortly after straightening, Beau Mertens steered the daughter of Written Tycoon through the field, shouldering into the clear like an AFL midfielder but still with some ground to make up. As the leaders started to puncture, she exploded past them to score by just over a length.

It seems the 2000m is the perfect trip for the rangey mare after finding the 2200m last start just a fraction too far and she didn’t have a great deal of luck at Moonee Valley over 2040m the start prior when 4th beaten less than 2L.

There is a lovely race at Morphetville over 2000m which will be ideal for her next start. It will bolster her value as a broodmare if she can pinch a city race, being from one of the best families in racing.

Playing It Safe races in the colours of Steve Grant owner of Silverdale Farm, the birthplace of Multiple Gr.1 winner, Rebel Dane as well as Golden Slipper/ Sires Produce star, Fireburn.
