SHE’S A KEEPA

Dee Keepa bolts in

Spicer Thoroughbreds welcomed another New Zealand import home as a winner when Dee Keepa (4yo m Keeper x Royal Visit) absolutely bolted in at her third Australian start in the Porter Plant Hire F&M BM64 (1200m) to confirm her bright future.

Dee Keepa had shown plenty of promise in a handful of starts in New Zealand before she was purchased by Spicer Thoroughbreds on behalf of a group of clients and has given trainer Lindsey Smith cause for optimism after three good runs – including when breaking the Ballarat track record as a runner-up.

“She will be winning city races in the future, Lindsey is of that opinion as well but this prep was all about getting her to settle in,” said Brad Spicer.

“Matt (Cartwright) gave her a great ride today – he actually beat us home the start before – and the mare really exploded clear when he asked her. She’ll go for a break now and will come back for the spring.”

Dee Keepa’s win continued a fantastic winning record for New Zealand recruits purchased by Spicer Thoroughbreds, joining the likes of Lucky For All, Mystery Shot, and Mr Cancun as successful tried horse purchases – but perhaps the most exciting Kiwi import is en route to Australia at the time of writing, the highly regarded stayer Kissinger will join Lindsey Smith’s yard ahead of a tilt towards the 2020 Spring Carnival.

Congratulations to all of our winning owners involved in Dee Keepa, here’s to a bright future!
