Aspen Colorado, another exciting stayer we purchased as a yearling from Europe, scored a thrilling victory at Moonee Valley tonight.
Conceding a good deal of weight and first up against race fit horses, the son of Sea The Moon appreciated the nice quite ride afforded to him by champ hoop, D. Oliver. Although he was snookered just before the corner, Ollie weaved his magic and knowing he had the horse under him to be in the finish set sail out after the leaders.
Although runner-up Alphaville was in for the fight, our boy showed plenty of tenacity and had that class edge to overcome 5.5kg disadvantage in the weights. He stuck his nose out and just wanted to find the line. He did a super job to win first up and should train on nicely from here to be competitive in the Autumn.
He showed great signs winning his Maiden by a space but was found out to have a niggling throat issue which was the reason for sub par runs following. Thankfully that has all been rectified and we look forward to seeing him stretch out over further and tackle some bigger and better assignments.
Just like Sabar, Likely Prospect and Sir Atlas our imported staying prospects are looking top notch. Watch out for Captain Britain who will be unleashed in a month.
