Our exciting run of success continues as we roll out one good horse after another… this one Captain Britain looks a very nice prospect, breaking his Maiden with ease at Warrnambool this afternoon.

Captain Britain is another of our Northern Hemisphere bred yearlings we purchased to bring down-under to race. A concept we are heavily invested in and it is definitely looking like a prudent plan at this stage.

He was purchased at the Goffs Orby sale, he was slightly over budget, but one gets the feeling it could lend up a cheap purchase. The 4yo gelding is by Camelot out of a Shamardal mare who is possibly Brad’s all time favourite Sire!

Captain Britain was presented at the races twice before going for a break. He struck two heavy tracks which he didn’t love. On debut his class got him through to finish 2nd but he’d had enough 2nd up when only a fair 4th on a bog at Bendigo. Put away over the summer, he relished getting some sun on his back and the warmer climate that he was used to in Europe and really thrived.

Taking his place at Warrnambool first up over 1200m made us a touch apprehensive felling it maybe a touch short for him but Lindsey had him nice and fresh and courtesy of another lovely ride by Beau Mertens,he found the front in the straight and kicked clear to win with a bit on his rivals.

He wanted to stargaze a little which indicates how much improvement there is to come and we cannot wait to see him a bit more seasoned and over some ground but one thing is certain… he is an excting prospect of the future.

It was another red letter day for our Trainer, Lindsey Smith coming away with a treble at the meeting. He has trained 11 winners from the last 15 or 16 races at Warrnambool meetings. Incredible.

Captain Britain races in the colours made famous by Gr1 winner, The Quarterback and owned in the same interests through Princeton Thoroughbred’s Craig Pearce. There are also many other shareholders in the horse who are no doubt strapping themselves in for a great ride! Special mention to the memory of Deane Lester who has had so much to do with Craig and also Spicer Thoroughbreds.

Earlier in the day we were wrapt to see Kermadelle give us a glimpse of what she is made of. She debuted on a Heavy track, went shin sore and was immediately put away only to return today with a slashing 2nd behind a horse who looks city class. Keep your eyes on her!
