A heavy track at Ballarat today was the big question mark, but our boy Sir Atlas did us proud ploughing through it for a gutsy win, his 3rd victory from as many starts. In doing so, he brought up a Double for us with Tango And Cash winning earlier in the day. It also made it 4 wins for gun jock beau Mertens. Fingers crossed, promising stayer, Bitcoin can make it a treble in the last!
Sir Atlas is really proving to be a prudent purchase after we secured him as a yearling at the Tattersalls Sales in the UK. We have a big opinion of that Sale and will be back there looking for more exciting stayers this October. If you’d like to get involved, get in touch with brad@spicerthoroughbreds.com.au ASAP, as spots will be limited.
This 3rd win was probably his toughest, just for the fact his biggest weapon, that scintillating turn of foot he possesses was null and void on that bog. He was slow to begin and back on the inside in the 9 horse field. Before they cornered, he had slow horses in front and around him so it was up to in-form Beau – going for his 4th for the day, to find the right passage.
Once the run came, he made his claim towards the middle of the track and still with the job ahead, took ground off the leading pair who were back near the rail. He lunged on the line in a desperate 3 way go and in a deceptive finish, the only person on track who thought he’d won was the only one we needed – the Judge.
With his form, he is likely to head to Caulfield on the 24th of June, however he is still very much a work-in-progress and we expect he will be much more effective, when he matures more in the ’2024.

Sir Atlas is another of our purchases out of a Shamardal mare which we pay special attention to. Incidentally, we were lucky enough to secure a Yes Yes Yes colt out of a 5 x winning Shamardal mare at this year’s Inglis Easter yearling Sale. A small portion remains in him and if interested please let us know?
