Late last year we made the decision to send Mystery Shot north in search of his preferred wet tracks. He landed in Matthew Dale’s care at Goulburn but things hadn’t worked out according to plan with tracks offering any give eluding the 6yo.

Finally today, he struck a Heavy 9 at Hawkesbury and though he is probably better suited on something in the Slow range, he still showed plenty of tenacity to get the job done.

We were very lucky to have had the services of “Aussie Tom” Marquand, one of the best riders in the world. After a scratchy getaway in the small field, he managed to put Mystery Shot into the perfect spot behind the leader.

In what was a slowly run race, it was always going to be a dash home and Marquand had to urge our boy through a narrow gap which he bravely took. Once in clear air Mystery Shot forged to the front, finishing strongly to hold a half length margin on the line.

It was his 7th win from 25 starts and that victory tipped his prizemoney over the $400k mark.

With winter just around the corner he should continue to find suitable tracks and more wins won’t surprise anyone in this camp!
