With the racing industry still under a cloud of shock, disbelief and sadness at news of the sudden passing of

Dean Holland, we saw the Australian debut of Bitcoin at Ballarat and his impressive victory gave us something to smile about.

We purchased him as a Stakes placed Maiden from NZ after he piqued our interest being the brother of Gr1 star, Gypsy Goddess. We struck a deal with owner, John Malcom who stayed in the horse and brought him over the ditch to the care of our main man, Lindsey Smith.

He took a little bit of time to acclimatise but once ready, we found the ideal race for him to kick off in time for a SA Derby mission and after today’s easy win over 2000m, he has definitely earned a crack at the Group One feature. The extra trip will suit him to a tee and though he is still very much a work in progress and this might come around a bit soon for him, he definitely shapes as an exciting stayer of the future.

Damien Oliver rode Bitcoin perfectly and was full of praise for the son of Tarzino. Special mention must go to Ollie and all who participated at the meeting under such duress. It was a credit to them to show such professionalism and also to Dean who would have been watching over the meeting with pride and love.

Congratulations to a great bunch of owners which includes Mr D C Morison, Prestige Racing 3, Mr A M Opie, Mr G Kaparos, Mr I McLean, Mr C R Fisher, Mr A Schultz, Four Pillars Racing, Mr B P Morrissey and Mr J Morrissey.
