After a solid 2nd last start, our girl First Chorus put the writing on the wall that she would very hard to beat at her next outing and she didn’t disappoint at Seymour today.
At only her 3rd career run, the daughter of NZ stallion Ghibellines relished the extra trip and proved too powerful for her rivals.
Given every hope by in-form hoop, Jamie Mott who had just ridden the winner of the first on the card, the 4yo mare was in the thick of things up on the pace.
Although for a fleeting moment, when the race hotted up, it looked like she was going to weaken and we’d have to settle for another placing, but no sooner did she change the script.
She pinned back her ears and dug deep, forging clear over the last bit to win well and look particularly solid through the line. Jamie found the best of her and she proved too good for race fave Decanted.
It was a great effort to get back up off the canvas like she did, a testament to Lindsey Smith’s proven and sworn-by deep sand work, which produces tough horses.
Keeping her runs spaced also seemed to be key and she will only improve from here with her best to come at a mile and possibly up to 2000m.
We purchased her on the back of having raced her full sister, Bellini Miss a City winning mare who won over $250k.
She will head to Seymour once again for a mile race and then we will assess our plans moving forward.
Congratulations to all involved! Mr J R Shrimpton, Mr S S Roth, Mr D R Wockner, Grass Roots Racing, A A F T’Angles, Mr B Man, Mr S Crisci, Mr C Sacchetta, Mr M R Cawley, Mr C D Taylor, Mr C P Byrne, Mr G A Kernahan, Mr D Davies, Mr M Stevens and Mr N Johnstone.
