Leia Proves a worthy Princess

Well the wait was worth it after seeing what Leia did today to a really good bunch of 2 year olds. I spoke with 2 trainers here in Sydney that had runners today in our race and they both gave their horses a rap, but our girls class carried her a long way today in the Duart Homestead SV 2YO Maiden Plate over 1108m. Prize Money was $17,500 plus $9,000 Super VOBIS Bonus.

She had no favours in the run after being posted 3 wide for the whole trip, but when Michael Walker asked her for a big effort in the straight she let rip like a quality filly .Michael said she has the makings of a promising filly once she learns how to be a race horse, as she is still doing things on fear .

Leon was so happy with today as he has put his neck out over recent weeks declaring this filly has a good future and that’s what you want to see when you make big statements.

We will endeavour to get the video of the race up shortly.

Captain Shazam Wins at Swan Hill – VIDEO

Well done guys, it’s been a long slog but we saw today we have a very nice horse in the making. He won with ease and is destined for better Races.

Craig Robertson said he still has so much upside this guy and when the penny drops he will be a serious city class horse. He actually ran quicker time than the older 72 rated 975 which is always a positive sign.

Leon is thrilled to get that one after missing out at Bendigo and will give him one more Country race before we step him out on a Metro track.

2013 Yearling Parade & Family Day

Spicer Thoroughbreds yearling Parade for 2103 will be on the 21st of April at Leon Corstens training centre, Kerrygail farm near Romsey, about an hour from Melbourne.

It all kicks off at 11am, with a sausage sizzle, coffee van, drinks and a jumping castle and face-painting for the kids.

A select team of Spicer Thoroughbreds yearlings will be paraded for your chance to check them out up close and personal, and join in the excitement of horse ownership. Meet other owners, chat with trainer Leon Corstens and his team, and enjoy the family atmosphere.

Awaken The Dragon Wins Race 5 at Caulfield

Well the wait was worth it today as the Dragon really knuckled down, took gaps, and surged late for a very satisfying win. Michael Rodd rode him perfectly, settled him early and saved him up in the straight for a late crack.

Michael said he felt great today, except for his high head carriage, but as we know that is just his natural way of running.

Leon was thrilled with the win, having all that time off has paid dividends and hopefully we can now build on that win.

Here is the video of the race & interviews:
