Sir Atlas Delivers a Giant Country Mile Victory at Caulfield.

On Saturday at Caulfield, we saw exactly what Sir Atlas is capable of when the lightly raced 7yo took out the $200k Country Mile Final at Caulfield.

Barrier 2 was a little bit concerning but jockey Will Gordon and Lindsey Smith were adamant to make sure he would stay off the rail and be saved for a big finish outside of runners.

It meant the son of SIR PERCY drifted back to beyond midfield during the race and it was down to getting the split to set sail out after them at the right time but Will did a perfect job to make it happen. He eased Sir Atlas off heels when the field turned for home and knowing the blistering turn of foot the gelding possesses, he waited until the opportune moment to burst through and reel in the leaders.

He sprouted wings and ran home the fastest last 200m to score a narrow but powerful victory – his 6th from just 18 starts with his prize money over $330,000.

Sir Atlas has been plagued by back issues throughout his career, so full credit to Lindsey Smith and his team for managing him so well. Also special mention to Brendan Mcarthy for working so effectively on his back.

There is a race on Mornington Cup Day, the standalone Saturday meeting on the 18th April we have in mind for him next.

Congratulations to the team in his ownership: Epic Racing, Mr D Boxshall, Mr K J Matthews, Mrs M L O’Donnell, Mr L O’Donnell, Mr A Van, Mr E P Clarke, Mrs R L Clarke, Mr A G Hartnell, Dr N J Hartnell, Mrs K Fox, Te Amo Mater, Mr S Willoughby, Mr R D Partington
