Spicer Thoroughbreds was established by Brad Spicer in 2005 as a professional Racehorse Management and Syndication business.
Our mission is to source high standard yearlings and make these horses available to our clients at affordable prices.

As a boutique style operation we believe in quality over quantity both in the yearlings we choose and in our target audience.

Each horse selected by us must pass a vigorous array of pre-sale tests including vet checks, X-Ray inspection, scoping and most importantly receive the Spicer Thoroughbred stamp of approval on type and pedigree. We spend countless hours inspecting horses and pouring over pedigree’s to get the right fit for the Spicer Thoroughbreds model. Our philosophy is that metropolitan-class horses are paramount in this game and we only target horses capable of reaching that elite level.

As far as clients are concerned, we strive get to know all of our owners personally and endeavour to make the experience of racing a horse with us as special as possible. We pride ourselves on the level and standard of communication provided to our owners as we are mindful that many people are time poor but still have a thirst for information. It goes without saying that the on race day our owners enjoy total interaction with trainers, jockeys and of course the horse.

    Spicer Thoroughbreds Success Stories

  • Starspangledbanner - Who could have ever preempted the unbelievable heights this champion chestnut would soar to. In his short racing career he amassed over $1.3mil from just 12 starts. His wins included (in chronological order) the $250,000 Inglis 2yo Classic, the Listed Vain Stks, the G3 McNeil Hcp, The G1 Caulfield Guineas labelled "The Guineas Of The Decade" and the G1 Oakleigh Plate. He was also placed in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude, the Listed Festival Of Racing Stakes and the G1 Newmarket Hcp. In addition to that, he ran a close up and unlucky 4th in both the G3 Guineas Prelude and the G1 Lightning Stakes. He was eventually purchased by Coolmore for in excess of $10mil to race in the UK then begin a career at stud.

  • Helenus - Triple Group 1 winner winning the V.R.C Derby and over $2 million in prize money.

  • Origami Miss – over $100k prize money from a $40k purchase and won the Ritzenhoff Handicap on Melbourne Cup Day 2008.

  • Fernandina – $20k purchase and winner of the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude and the Listed Vain Stakes. Has won over $200k in Prize money and was sold to Hong Kong for over half a million dollars.

  • Noesis – won the listed Inglis Plate on debut at Flemington as a 2 year old.

  • Delayedreaction – There are not too many more consistent gallopers around than this gutsy chestnut. Unfortunately, problem feet have been his biggest enemy but what he lacks in soundness he makes up for in heart. Remarkably, he ran 2nd or 4th in 11 of 12 starts in a row before breaking through with a victory in the Listed Anniversary Vase at Caulfield. This win was sandwiched in between 2 placings in Group 3 races. Although he is a day to day proposition he should still have more exciting races in him.

  • Other city class gallopers include – Prussian Empress, Sneaky Tsu and De Little One.
